Yeah I'm just crazy

If you like pop, take a step forward.
If you like 70's experimental acid rock, take a step forward.
If you like 90's progressive electronic low-vox-mix, take a step forward.

...

okay, if you're still here, you probably like "chillwave" music. Can I ask you a question?

What is up with this stuff? I don't get it. It should be techo, but it's not. It should be in stoner circles, but it's not. Where does it fall? It's supposedly been around for at least a decade or so, according to Wikipedia. Why did I not hear of it until last month? Where the hell have I been, I guess is what I'm asking. Did chillwave artists just not promote enough or something, or did I just not get out at all until lately? What's their deal? Now I see them all over HipsterRunoff and YouTube. Is Carles just insane, or am I going totally mad? a la Lust For Life. I just don't get it. Where did these guys come from? SanFran?

Well, whatever the confusion is, I can't help but tap my foot to Talamak.

speaking of lust for life...

I sometimes really do wish I had a pizza and a bottle of wine. That would make my night right now much more interesting. I had the pizza. No wine though. Koronet's, love of my life. Start serving Pinot Noir and you're all set.

Music Business vs. Every Torrent ... EVER

So I'm sitting in my room listening to animal collective, completely enamored by the colors of canon they get in this live show in Lisbon, Portugal. I found it from another blog that apparently got chastised and was forced to take down the link...that didn't really stop anyone from getting this incredible music though. What really disturbs me is that in this day in age, I think the days of paying for music are over in some regards - in all areas of music, particularly music publishing. More and more, I see composers' music up for free PDF or mp3 download on their site. Granted, I have only seen this from my contemporaries of the younger generation. As for mp3's, especially after the In Rainbows release of 2007 (a day I will remember until I die), there is no point in fighting the free acquiring of music. You already know this. You want this hot new album. You can't find it for cheap, so you ask your friend if you can burn it. No matter what, people will find the music they want - and don't get me started about torrents. You know that at least half of the music you loved in middle school was ripped off of Kazaa or Napster. And when one torrent goes under, it's only a matter of seconds before the next one creeps onto the scene.
If I were to post a YouTube link to a song off the the new Pheonix album, what's to stop you from ripping the audio from GetTube? Nothing. It's too easy these days, and the music business is at the mercy of the torrent.

But I'm sure you've heard this all before, and I can't imagine I'm saying anything too radical right now.

Bolt for a Buck

Bolt for a buck? I think I almost got a Megabus ticket for a buck one time, but it was at 5 in the morning and there was no point in even flirting with the idea of starting the day at that time (mind you, this was in the summer). Well anyways, here I am on a Bolt bus back to NYC for the rest of spring break (half a week now). I'm going tomorrow to the Met to see Shostakovich's "The Nose", which seems to be getting good reviews. . . I haven't read anything about them, but people keep telling me that it's "really interesting". I don't know... Everytime I hear "interesting" in regards to any music written after 1909 or so, it usually means that the person who uttered the words doesn't understand the music at all (which I don't really care about), but they might want to sound intelligent (which, again, I don't have any problem with) so they avoid having to try to actually critique the music or even the performance and just slap on the old "interesting", which can go either way.

I don't want this to turn into that blog where everyone and everything is given the smackdown treatment, so I'll stop. And I don't think I'm that kind of person anyways.

So, in the best sense of the phrase, I hope that "The Nose" is as un-"interesting" as possible.

I've been reading a little bit of "Hipster Runoff" lately. Carles is a riot. I think he's gotten into the heart of what is on everyone's mind, but actually says it. He might be a bit too blunt, but that also just might be his style.
Whatever the case may be, he certainly has some very modern cultural insights that tons of fans around the country buy into. One post in particular was about the different age groups found at a band's concerts regularly (or not). I can't find the link to it, but if anyone knows where this post disappeared to please let me know.
Most of the time, he has joke stories. Kind of like the onion, but they are 100% true (sometimes not that much of a good thing). One story, about an episode of Judge Judy in which some misguided drunk soul decided to throw two television sets at a girl's cat, crushing it to death. To which Carles responds with the label: "GUILTY OF BEING ALT". Priceless.

Seeing as my narrative skill is at a whopping zilch, I can't think of a way to end this entry.
So choose from the following catchphrases:

a) "That's all folks"
b) "Is that yer associate there in the chopper?"
c) Beethoven
d) "And now for something completely different."
e) "Remember to have your pet spade or neutered."
